Ohio Restoration and Preservation Society (O.R.A.P.S.) is in the process of putting together a proposal to start an operation that will benefit many in and around Mansfield and the surrounding Richland County area. Its primary focus for workers will be toward disadvantage and out of work young adults.

New trainees will learn how to take down homes, barns, and other structures in a way that will allow the materials to be reused or handled in an environmentally conscious manner. The building materials salvaged from demolition jobs are sold in the warehouse at a fraction of the original materials. This will lead to less waste and more opportunities in and around Mansfield.

This operation will help support our other projects, restoring historic homes, if there is not anyone to restore them, they will be demolished themselves and Mansfield is already losing a lot of it’s history.

Also by training people in complete restoration, preservation, and complete demolition this will put many people to work to help support their families. At this time we have four main focuses:

  • Restoration
  • Reuse
  • Poverty Relief
  • Education

As time goes on we are sure that other focuses will come into play, but for now those four will play a major part in many different ways. Not only for restoration and preservation but those we can help to get back into the work force, train them and educate them will go a long way in securing Mansfield’s history and future.
